Hi, students! This is just a reminder that the candygram sale is winding up, so if you have any still to purchase, I'll be hanging around down in the cafeteria today, waiting to fulfill your Valentine's day wishes.

And on another, tangentially related note, thank you for making my Valentine's Day wishes come true by conducting yourselves with such professionalism at the press conference yesterday. I thought it went really well, in spite of some rather fickle reporters, and those of you who spoke in the program's defense really did Camulus proud. Well done!

As I would imagine everyone has heard by now, an earthquake in Japan has taken the life of Yuki's grandmother. I have ordered a large arrangement of flowers to be delivered to the funeral and think that it would be very kind if people might come here and sign the card.

Axiom is working diligently to rescue any remaining victims and to re-establish some semblance of order in the region. If you have money to spare, it would be a really lovely gesture to donate to the Axiom Emergency Relief Fund in memory of Yuki's grandmother. Student Council will be doing so shortly and I have, personally. More than the flowers, perhaps this will communicate to Yuki that we are with her during her period of mourning.

So, how much can we spare, Mal?

Hiya, love. How's life? I've been meaning to nab you all week about funding for Axiom Jr., thought I'd float you the proposed plan I have and see if you can find any places we can save some cash. Also, I was wondering if you'd talked to Felix since his fight with Teo? I thought maybe he'd have spoken with you about it.
FILTERED TO JOHN & CHRYSO
So which of you two wants to tell me why Teo and Felix ended up trying to smash one another's faces in?
FILTERED TO TEODORO
Are you alright?

I'm so excited about the Jr. Axiom announcement and would be really happy to answer any questions, though I realize Felix has already offered to do so as well. There will be a longer press conference to answer any pressing questions, but we might be able to help in the interim! It's going to be a really fantastic opportunity, one that no one else has ever had, so take advantage of it! It could prove incredibly useful experience and training for a number of different positions post-graduation. Winning the Tournament isn't always the most viable option, and it's always good to remember that there are different opportunities available to use upon completion of our Tenure.

If you need any help, I'm always around. E-mail, text, journal, or my door. Don't hesitate! I know everyone's busy with Rush Week, but it's good to maintain some perspective. Start talking to your Mentors, ask them how they feel you might fit within the program, consider areas of improvement and remember that it's never too late to start working on your resume.

Best of luck to the pledges, too!

FILTERED TO SENIORS:
So, I can't be the only person who finds this a rather ominous way to start out our Tournament year, can I? I can't remember Obelisks ever failing before. And I don't want to say that where Freshman can read, because I'm sure that one of the mentors will shortly be assuring us it was a fluke. But if something like this happened in the Arena -- I don't really need to finish that sentence.

Does anyone have any insight?

Even after all these years (that makes me sound much older than I am) it still amazes me what can be done with video editing. I watched the footage from our little altercation with local Bostonians yesterday -- not exactly how I remembered it. In fairness, not much of what I see on television is easy to recall. Good lesson for the freshman: remember, you're never the only one in control of your actions.

Speaking of actions, the first general student council meeting is next Wednesday at 5pm. Please come out, even if you've never been before. We'll be discussing possible rule changes (an annual tradition), rush week, possible shifts in the rating system and any concerns students have that they wish to raise. Refreshments will be provided -- hope to see you there.

Amazons, thanks for a fantastic party. I'm sorry I had to leave early, it was a slightly bearabl good time.

Hey! Can I ask you a favour?

Halfway through week one and we've all survived: better than some of the freshmen's prophecies, if I recall correctly. That's the first point of my first entry of the year, actually. I wanted to formally introduce myself as one of those people who intends to help make sure our end count is the same as our beginning count: as an RA in Victory Hall and your Student Council President, I hope that you'll all come to know my open door policy intimately. If you're uncomfortable about anything, have a concern, need a reprieve from your roommate or someone to talk to about home, I'm happy to be of whatever service I can be.

But as President, I also have to represent and communicate some of the school's policy, too. I want to make it clear that the Student Council will not be an idle body this year: while we hope to express your concerns with the Tournament and Camulus in a productive manner, we will also be taking steps to ensure that our student body is representing the school appropriately.

So while I'm sorry to start the school year off today, I need to make something clear: Headmaster Yi will not tolerate the kind of behavior exhibited Sunday evening. The property damage is totaling over $3000, which may seem like not a lot. It has been decided, however, to come out of the Student Council budget. He also wants to make it understood that the Societies are a privilege, not a right.

What I'm saying is that it's a very real possibility that the Societies will be shut down this year if things don't change.

Anyway! I realize that's very severe and I hope you understand I'm the messenger. Welcome back, Camulus: here's to the best year yet.

EXECUTIVE STUDENT COUNCIL:
What a bad way to introduce myself. But Headmaster Yi was not happy this afternoon -- I actually had to convince him to keep the Societies intact. I don't think he's as invested in the importance of the media angle as we are. Maybe that's something we can discuss amongst ourselves. Anyway, I think for the time being it's important to keep everything intact.

Onto business! Executive meeting this Sunday? I'm going to book one of the conference rooms and will provide wine, water and vegetarian treats. Hope everyone can make it!
